(Participating-3)
การประชุมนั้นจะต่างจากการบรรยายตรงที่อาจจะมีผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมผู้อื่นพูดแทรกขึ้นในขณะที่เรากำลังพูดอยู่และมักทำให้การเสนอความคิดเห็นหรือข้อเสนอแนะต่อที่ประชุมขาดตอนไป เพื่อเป็นการเชื่อมโยงแนวความคิดให้ต่อเนื่องสำหรับผู้ฟังหลังจากที่ได้ชี้แจงหรือตอบข้อสงสัยแล้ว เราจำเป็นที่จะต้องเชื่อมโยงสิ่งที่เราจะพูดต่อไปกับสิ่งที่เราได้พูดไปก่อนที่จะถูกขัดจังหวะเข้าด้วยกันโดยอาศัยคำพูดต่อไปนี้
- Going back to what I said before, ... .
- To go back to what I was just saying, ... .
- As I was saying, ... .
- To return to the point I was making, ... .
ในบางครั้งผู้ที่ขัดจังหวะอาจจะหลงประเด็นเกี่ยวกับเรื่องที่เรากำลังพูดอยู่ ในกรณีนี้เราไม่จำเป็นต้องตอบหรือชี้แจงข้อสงสัยนั้น แต่อาจใช้คำพูดเหล่านี้แจ้งให้ทราบว่าเขากำลังหลงประเด็น แล้วจึงย้อนกลับไปพูดเรื่องที่กำลังพูดมาก่อนหน้านี้ต่อไป
- I take your point but can we please stick to the main subject in hand.
- I see what you mean but I think you’re losing track of the main point.
- That’s not the point. We’re here to discuss ... .
- That’s all very well. Now, let’s get back to the point.
- I know what you mean, but I don’t see what it’s got to do with what we’re talking about here.
นอกจากนี้แล้วในการประชุมแต่ละครั้งไม่ได้หมายความว่าเราจะต้องมีเรื่องพูดหรือมีความคิดเห็นที่จะเสนอทุกครั้งไป ในกรณีที่เราไม่มีเรื่องจะพูดหรือความคิดเห็นที่จะเสนอ หรือไม่มีท่าทีที่ชัดเจนแน่นอน เราอาจใช้ประโยคเหล่านี้ได้
- It’s very difficult (for me) to say (at the moment).
- I’m afraid I can’t comment on that at this stage.
- I’ll need some more time before I can give any comment.
- Let me think it over for a few minutes.
- I don’t have any comment at the moment.
- I’d like to have a few more minutes to consider this matter before I can give any comment.
- There won’t be any comment from me at the moment.
- I’d rather comment later, if that’s all right.
- Please give me a few more minutes. I’m organizing my thoughts.
