บทที่ 5 การเสนอหนทางเลือก

(Stating Options)

หลังจากที่ได้ดึงดูดความสนใจของผู้ฟังด้วยการตั้งคำถามขึ้นมาลอยๆเพื่อเสนอปัญหาหรือประเด็นให้ผู้ฟังเกิดความรู้สึกมีส่วนร่วมและคิดตามไปด้วยแล้ว ลำดับต่อไปของการนำเสนอได้แก่การเสนอหนทางเลือกสำหรับการแก้ปัญหาหรือประเด็นย่อยให้ผู้ฟังพิจารณาโดยใช้คำพูดต่อไปนี้

• We have considered/looked at one/two/etc. options.
• One way to solve this problem is .... Another is to ...
• There are two/three alternatives. The first one is ...
• The/Our first option is (to) ...
• But what about the second/third/other option?
• So, now let’s look at the second/third/other option, which is (to) ...
• We have two/three/etc. courses of action. The first one is (to) ...
• The options/alternatives we have are (to) ... or (to) ...
• There are two/three/etc. ways to handle/solve this problem, which are (to) ... or (to) ...
• To solve/handle this problem, we can either ... or ...

ในการกล่าวถึงแต่ละหนทางเลือกหรือแต่ละประเด็นย่อยนั้นจะต้องแจกแจงให้ผู้ฟังเห็นถึงข้อดีและข้อเสียของหนทางเลือกแต่ละข้อ ซึ่งเราอาจเลือกใช้คำพูดเหล่านี้ ได้แก่

ข้อดี

• What are the benefits/advantages?
• The advantages/benefits of this option are ...
• By choosing this option, we’ll be able to ...
• This option/alternative will enable us to ...
• We’ll benefit by ...

ข้อเสีย

• There are, however, (some) disadvantages, which are ...
• But there are some problems too.
• On the other hand, ...
• By choosing this option, we/the company, however, will have to ...
• The disadvantages/shortcomings/etc. of this option are ...
• Unfortunately, we will not be able to ...

สถานการณ์ตัวอย่าง

• The options we have are to acquire more machinery or to hire more labor. The advantages of the first option are ... . On the other hand ... . By choosing the second option, we’ll be able to ... . Unfortunately, we will not be able to ... .
• All these late deliveries and backup orders make us fall back almost two months in our schedule. What can we do about it? There are two ways to handle this problem, which are to revamp our operation, a costly choice but worthwhile in the long run, or to contract out production and delivery, a less cost choice but would not be economical in the long run.
