2.3 การเปรียบเทียบคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ (COMPARISON OF ADVERBS)

วิธีเปรียบเทียบคำกริยาวิเศษณ์มีอยู่ 3 วิธี คือ

ขั้นการเปรียบเทียบ	สูตร	ตัวอย่าง
เท่า/ไม่เท่ากัน (equality/inequality) กว่า* (comparative) สุด* (superlative)	(not) as + adverb + as more + adverb + than most + adverb	... as quickly as ... more quickly than most quickly

* หมายเหตุ

· มีคำกริยาวิเศษณ์หลายคำที่มีรูปคล้ายคำคุณศัพท์ เช่น fast, early, hard ฯลฯ ดังนั้นเวลาที่จะพูดเปรียบเทียบคำกริยาวิเศษณ์เหล่านี้จะต้องใช้สูตรคล้ายกับการเปรียบเทียบคำคุณศัพท์ กล่าวคือ เติม -er + than หลังคำกริยาวิเศษณ์สำหรับขั้นกว่า และเติม -est หลังคำกริยาวิเศษณ์สำหรับขั้นสูงสุด เช่น
John runs faster than Vince.
Bobby runs fastest in the class.

· นอกจากนี้ ยังมีคำกริยาวิเศษณ์บางคำที่มีรูปเปรียบเทียบแตกต่างออกไป ได้แก่
ดี : well better best
แย่ : badly worse worst
มาก : much more most
น้อย : little less least
ไกล : far farther farthest

CONVERSATION 1
A: Marc doesn't run as quickly as Scott.
B: But Marc can hit the ball farther than Scott can.
A: They both can play very well.
B: Yes. But Steve plays better than Marc and Scott.

CONVERSATION 2
A: Scott runs more quickly than Marc.
B: On the other hand, Scott doesn't hit the ball as far as Marc does.
A: I think they both play well.
B: Yes. But of the three, Steve plays best.
