o ใช้แสดงความแน่ใจ ความมั่นใจ สิ่งที่ต้องเกิดขึ้นอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้
เช่น Nolan must be in his office by now.
Everything must come to pass.

o ใช้แสดงความมุ่งมั่น ความตั้งใจ
เช่น We must finish this job today.

o ใช้แสดงการบังคับ คำสั่ง
เช่น You must follow the instruction carefully.

o ใช้แสดงการห้ามปราม การเตือนสติ
เช่น You mustn't talk to your elder brother like that.

o ใช้แสดงสภาวการณ์ที่ถูกบังคับให้ทำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง
เช่น I must take this class next year.

o ใช้ในรูป must + have + กริยาช่อง 3 เพื่อแสดงความมั่นใจว่าเหตุการณ์อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งต้องเกิดขึ้นแล้วในอดีต
เช่น That's Eric's card. He must have been here while we were out.

o เมื่อใช้ในรูปปฏิเสธ เติม not ข้างหลัง must (โดยมีรูปย่อ mustn't)

o เมื่อใช้ในประโยคคำถาม วาง must ไว้หน้าประโยค เช่น Must he do it?

CONVERSATION 1
A: I had to stay up late the past few weeks.
B: You must not work too hard.
A: I'm so tired now. I must get some sleep.

CONVERSATION 2
A: I had to go to bed late the past few days.
B: You must get some sleep then.
A: I'm so exhausted. I must take a nap.
