การใช้ shall	การใช้ should
ใช้เพื่อขออนุญาตหรืออาสา เช่น Shall I let the dog in? ใช้เมื่อขอคำแนะนำ ขอความเห็น เช่น What shall I give Kathy on her birthday? ใช้แสดงความตั้งใจ ความมุ่งมั่น เช่น I shall return.	ใช้ในความหมาย ควรจะ (ทำบางสิ่งบางอย่าง) เช่น It's late. You should get some sleep. ใช้แสดงความคาดหวัง ความน่าจะเป็น เช่น He should be here any minute. ใช้ในรูป should + have + กริยาช่อง 3 เพื่อกล่าวถึงสิ่งที่ควรจะกระทำแต่กลับไม่ได้ทำ เช่น You should have told me yesterday.

o เมื่อใช้ในรูปปฏิเสธ เติม not ข้างหลัง shall และ should (โดยมีรูปย่อ shan't และ shouldn't)

o เมื่อใช้ในประโยคคำถาม วาง shall และ should ไว้ข้างหน้าประโยค เช่น Shall we go now?

CONVERSATION 1
A: Shall we give Chris a congratulations party for his promotion?
B: We should.
A: Should we also give him a present?
B: We should think about that later.

CONVERSATION 2
A: Shall we throw a party for Chris on his graduation?
B: Yes, we should.
A: What shall we give him as a present?
B: I'm thinking of giving him a pen.
