2.3 คำสันธานเชื่อมคำหรือความโดยต้องใช้เป็นคู่ (CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS)

มีคำสันธานบางคำที่ต้องใช้เป็นคู่เพื่อเชื่อมคำในประโยคให้ได้ความหมายที่ต้องการ ได้แก่

ใช้เชื่อมเพิ่มความ	ใช้เชื่อมเลือกความ	ใช้เชื่อมแสดงเงื่อนไข
both ... and not only ... but (also) as ... as	either ... or neither ... nor whether ... or	though ... yet so ... as if ... then

ตัวอย่างเช่น

Jon is good at both playing football and studying. (เพิ่มความ)
They either went to Spain or remained in Portugal. (เลือกความ)
If Sally is here, then her car must be near the building. (แสดงเงื่อนไข)

CONVERSATION 1
A: Scott is quite good at both football and basketball.
B: If he's that good, then he should play for the school teams.
A: Though he likes the sports, yet he doesn't like the pressure during competition.

CONVERSATION 2
A: Dave is not only a good football player but also a great basketball player.
B: He should play for the school teams then if he's that good.
A: He neither likes the pressure nor practice sessions.
